Natalie Garcia, President

I know you are now coming to the realization that those long and lazy days of summer are now over and you are back in school, bombarded with homework, sports, extracurricular activities-- AHHH!!!! Don't worry; you have only nine more months to go, but hey, the IASC is revving its engines and is ready to go! Are you excited?! I knew you would be! Hello! I"m Natalie Garcia, your 2000-2001 IASC President, and I am a senior at Downers Grove South. After three long months of watching "Beverly Hills 90210" reruns, many late nights spent at Dennys, and hundres of Starbucks Espresso Frappuccinos, I am ready to stary my engine and zoom into the wonderful world of the IASC. This year, I am here and ready to serve you as I furiously search for the best and most qualified speakers for the convention in May. In addition, the State Board is looking forward to an incredible year with thirteen amazing districts organizing a variety of events that will give you the opportunity to broaden your horizons and sharpen those leadership skills with which you are naturally equipped. We have one of the oldest student council organizations in the nation, and we have a strong foundation from which to start. We need to work together to continue to build the IASC and make it even stronger. I encourage you to participate at your district level and benefits from the many activities and events it hosts. Also, be a part of the IASC and attend the State Convention in May. "United we stand, divided we fall." We need to join together to make the most out of the year. At any time this year, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or just want to chat, please don't dare hesitate to call me, e-mail me, write me, or even visit me! I am looking forward to a wonderful year! Take care and I wish you well this year!

Meredith Seckman, First Vice-President

Greetings to my fellow Illini! What do I say to the best state in the US (this was proven at Nationals 2000) which has allowed me to represent them as the First Vice President? THANKS! If this summer was even a taste of what is to come in this next year, I can't wait! My name is Meredith Seckman, your 2001-2001 First Vice President. I am a senior at Midwest Central High School. Ihave a sister who is 24, a brother who is 19, two nieces ages 6 and one month, two dogs, and one cat. I am in cheerleading and softball, pep club, and Student Council, Spanish Club, and serve on the Student Advisory Committee to the ISBE. I like to hang out with friends, read, eat, sleep, play sand volleyball, and have fun! Now that you know more about me than ever wanted, I will tell you a little bit about my position on the State Board.

Ed Lunney, Second Vice President

Every day when I get home from school I meet the mailman as he crosses my lawn and ventures over to my neighbor's house. When I see him I usually wave and smile, and he waves back. Well, the other day I pulled into my driveway and gave the usual friendly greetings. To my dismay, he did not wave back. I think my postman was not as happy as I was about the incredible respons IASCers have shown to the honor delegate program. Although various members of the USPS were not incredibly excited about the waves of applications that regularly made their way to my mailbox, I was absolutely thrilled! Now that I've sorted through honor delegate applications and can once again see my bedroom floor, I have been enjoying swimming through another ocean of paperwork: professional exhibitor letters, applications, and the like. There is already a fabulous lineup of colleges and companies to be at the convention in Springfield. I am still in need of your input! Please contact me with your wonderful suggestions! Oh, and be nice to your mailman!

Jeremy Vaught, Secretary

There is always the football team, the basketball team, the tennis team, and the cross-country team, but students often forget that there is a Student Council team too. ALthough Student Council members do not compete like athletic teams, teamwork is still an integral part of their success. As the IASC Secretary, I can help you develop your TEAM STUDENT COUNCIL by ortganizing the Honor Council Program. This program is specifically designed to improve and evaluate your Student Council. To participate in this program, each Student Council must work as a team to complete a comprehensive scrapbook of the activities done throughout the year. When you submit your HOnor COuncil Book or Mini-Book at the IASC Convention in May, the Honor Council Committee will grade your book using a scorecard. All Councils that submit a book will be recognized and commended for their outstanding efforts.

Katie Lindsay, Treasurer

Hey, all! It is Jon Olson, your IASC Treasurer here! As winter blows in from the NOrth, I have been recieving membership forms like mad. So far we're way ahead of scdule with near 200 member schools to date. I am hoping to make a record with over 200 members schools by the February Board Meeting. Thank you for sending in your forms as early as you did. At home, the Showchoir, Madrigal Singers, and Science Olympiad hae begun in full swing. To all of you attending Allerton at the end of January, I hope you have an awesome time, and I hope to see you there.

Michael Wiggers, Reporter Editor

My car and I hae been busy travelingn the roads of Illinois attending so many of your districts workshops and conventions! They hae all been so impressive and exciting! Continue to inform me of upcoming events so that I may attend and travel some more across our great state of Illinois. If you hae not been active within your district lately, it is time for you to get involved! You, too, will see how beneficial these workshops are to you and your Council. In addition, I have been spending my time compiling the Winter Issue of The Reporter. The task is made much harder when my computer hates me and crashes on me all too often! I appreciate the efforts of everyone who has offered input and submitted articles. As the convention quickly approaches, it is so vital that you continue to stay involved! Your work does matter and makes a difference! I wish you continued success in the new year! Please feel free to contact me if I can ever be of any assistance. Also, we are looking for any pictures that you may have of any Council related event to put in our slide show at convention. Please mail me any and all pictures!

Eslam Najjar, Convention Secretary

Greetins, everyone! It is hard to believe that we are already finishing up the first part of the school year, but it is time to start thinking about Convention 2000. The Executive Board and Newton Community High School are hard at work to make this the most memorable convention the IASC has ever had! From the Capitol building to candlelighting, Convention 2000 has many new and exciting htings to offer. The Springfield Hilton, the main hotel of the convention, is working closely with NCHS to make this a truly unique convention. I hope you will join us May 11-13 in Springfield for the first convention of the new millennium!
